Horse Trekking
The trekking route leads us across high mountain passes and through wide open landscapes. Our luggage will be carried by pack horses. Together with a local horseman we will take care of the horses. Along the route we enjoy the simplicity of the nomadic life together with the horses. We sleep mostly in our tents in wild places, or might find a herdsmen yurt camp to stay at.

TARGET AUDIENCE
For people who want to explore the country in the most authentic and real way: on the back of a horse.
Not luxury holidays, but definitely a prime-class experience! We will spend long days in the saddle. Some stretches we will (have to) walk next to the horses, especially when it is steep. A normal physical condition is required, also because much of the trek is above 2000 m.a.s.l.
ACCOMMODATION
We mostly sleep in our tents. Mattress and sleeping bag should be brought along. Some nights we spend in simple home stays / hostels and in yurt camps. Expect shared bathrooms in all of them.
FOOD
We will make a food plan and go (local) shopping together. Some food we will take from home. Cooking is team work.
While in civilization we enjoy discovering the local cuisine. If you have allergies or food preferences please let us know (and learn the Russian word for it).

OTHER INFORMATION
Medical
We will carry a basic 1st aid kit with basic mediation. There is decent medical supply in Bishkek. The further on the countryside, the sparser the infrastructure. Pharmacies are widely available. If you need special medication, it might be worth remembering its translation into the local language.
To reduce the risk of drinking polluted water we have a filter with us.
Safety
Organised rescue is relatively slow in remote areas, especially due to difficult terrain situations and the absence of air rescue services. For the most likely medical scenarios we may encounter a primary care has highest priority. In case we should be in need for evacuation, we have the opportunity to place emergency calls to officials and/or rely on a dense network of contacts in the country. Cell phone coverage can be expected in most civilised areas. To be able to place emergency calls from the wilder areas, we are carrying a satellite phone.
Insurance
No special requirements for entering Kyrgyzstan. Participants are responsible for having an insurance covering accidents and illness abroad, including search and rescue as well as repatriation. Additionally we recommend having a travel insurance and Rega membership (Swiss air rescue, Swiss residents).
